Virtual Coaching Solves the Chicago Problem

Chicago has no shortage of gyms and personal trainers. The problem is everything around them: the commute, the parking, the scheduling, the crowded peak hours, the trainer who's managing six clients at once and giving you 20% of their attention.

Virtual coaching with Ken eliminates all of that. You train on your schedule — early morning before the Metra, during a work-from-home lunch break, evenings when the gym would be packed. Ken watches your session live via video and gives you the same undivided attention he'd give you in person, because there's no one else in the room.

Ken is based in the Chicago area himself, so he understands the lifestyle — the work travel, the cold winters that kill outdoor training motivation, the small Chicago-apartment home gym setups. Programs are built around how you actually live, not how a fitness app assumes you live.

Ken's Approach to Coaching

Ken Hoyer has been training and coaching for over 40 years. He's in his 60s, still competing, still adding strength. His approach isn't about the latest fitness trend — it's about the fundamentals that have worked for every population, at every age, for decades: compound movements, progressive overload, adequate protein, consistent recovery.

He doesn't believe in programs that crush you in week one and leave you injured by week three. He builds programs that accumulate work progressively, that you can actually recover from, and that fit into a real adult's schedule with real adult responsibilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a dedicated home gym in Chicago to do virtual training?
Not at all. Ken has coached clients with nothing but a pair of dumbbells and a pull-up bar in a studio apartment. He'll build your program around whatever you have. Many Chicago clients also train from their building's fitness room or a local gym with earbuds and a phone stand.
I work long hours — how much time do sessions take?
Sessions run 30–60 minutes depending on your program and schedule. Many Chicago clients do 45-minute sessions three times a week — that's less than 2.5 hours of total training time, with no commute added. Ken builds programs that are efficient by design.
Is this really "live" or is it a pre-recorded program?
It's genuinely live. Ken is on video with you for your entire session, watching every set, giving real-time cues, and making on-the-fly adjustments. There's nothing pre-recorded about it — it's the same experience as having a trainer next to you in a gym.
I've had personal trainers before and didn't stick with it. How is this different?
Most people quit when the training doesn't fit their life. Virtual coaching removes the friction — there's no commute to skip, no scheduling around a gym's hours, no driving in a snowstorm. The accountability comes from having a real person who knows your program and checks in weekly, not from willpower alone.
